A petition has been lodged at Nepal’s Supreme Court asking the apex court to scrap MP-elect Rabi Lamichhane’s parliamentarian.
Rabi, a US returnee Nepal-born former actor and TV presenter, rose to political prominence in the November 20 National Election by winning polls from Chitwan district. However, concerns are there about his Nepali citizenship issue.
Rabi has been charged of using Nepali citizenship that he used to take before acquiring US citizenship and passport.
In a writ petition filed at the court, two lawyers have claimed that Rabi’s MP be scrapped because he is not a Nepali citizen.
Earlier, the issue of Rabi’s citizenship was complained at the Election Commission but the authorities there had forwarded the issue to the court and Home Ministry for further clarification.
